World Cup 2022/23: Lahti
After the parenthesis of the Raw Air Tournament, the German ski jumper Andreas Wellinger is ready to take part in the penultimate event of the World Cup season, namely the one in Lahti, Finland. On Saturday, Germany fielded Karl Geiger, Andreas Wellinger, Felix Hoffmann and Markus Eisenbichler in Team Competition. Andreas, who jumped first in the German team's line up, jumped 119.5 m in the 1st Round and 117.5 m in the Final Round. Germany ranked 5th, with a total score of 1001.9 points. Finally, on Sunday, in the qualification Andreas qualified 33rd, jumping 106.5 m and with a score of 92.5 points. In the 1st Round he finished 34th, jumping 95.0 m and scoring 90.6 points, not enough to qualify for the Final Round, which was canceled due to wind. Andreas Wellinger complained about the timing of Sunday's individual competition, referring to the 1st Round. Here are his words on this topic:
“We're waiting here for one hour and 45 minutes just for one round. It's not about fairness anymore when the one who gets the best conditions basically gets the win."
Weather-wise, strong winds appeared between qualifying and the 1st Round, causing the Final Round to be cancelled. Despite the complaints, safety comes first and the wind did not let up throughout Sunday's competition.
Until next time!
